The ECaM Stars Orchestra and Choir
|
|
OrchestraThe ECaM Stars Orchestra (ESOC), conducted by Ian Sanderson, consists mostly of bright young players that are involved with the ECaM music programme. It is a classical orchestra with woodwind, brass, percussion and string sections. Open to players of all abilities the ESOC orchestra is a chance for young musicians to experience playing in a real orchestral environment - learning as a group, sight-reading skills, orchestral etiquette, and experience of real performances, sometimes to crowds of thousands!
The orchestra performs at many events around Newham, including the The Mayor of Newham's Town Show, The Christmas Lights in Stratford, and Holocaust Memorial Day. The ESOC orchestra rehearsals take place every Tuesday during term-time from 16.30 - 18.30 at Grassroots CRC, Memorial Ave, London E15 3DB. |
ChoirThe ECaM choir is led by Craig Murdoch and consists of singers of varied age and musical experience. The most important thing to have in the ECaM choir is not experience but enthusiasm (experience also welcome).
They work on material to be performed with the orchestra or sometimes with piano accompaniment. The repertoire ranges from Gustav Mahler to Michael Jackson, Pharell Williams and much in between. It is a fun, interactive choir, and a great way to learn about and encourage group participation, rhythm, musicality, performance ettiquette, and of course singing! The rehearsals take place at the same time as the orchestra from 16.30-18.30 every Tuesday during term-time at Grassroots CRC, Memorial Ave, London E15 3DB |

Ensembles
There are also smaller groups that focus on particular styles of music or instrument combinations. These ensembles are an exciting way to explore the many different possibilities in music and being musician. Try out a jazz improvisation, play in an R and B Brass Band, or join the strings while they play arrangements of beautiful folk music.
The String Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble all rehearse after the main orchestra rehearsal, which is held from 16.30 - 18.30 and the ensembles from 18.30 - 19.30 every Tuesday during term-time at Grassroots CRC, Memorial Ave, London E15 3DB.

InstrumentsThe ECaM Orchestra includes the following instruments:
Woodwind: Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, and Bassoon. Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba and Euphonium. Percussion: Timpani, Drum Kit, Xylophone, Glockenspiel, and much more. Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass. Unfortunately guitar and piano/keyboard do not fit with the orchestral repertoire played by ESOC. Guitarists and Keyboard players have the option to either join the choir, or learn and play all kinds of instruments in the orchestral percussion section. |
